Dhoom 3 Review
The much awaited movie of the year – Dhoom 3 released worldwide this friday, and it was expected to end the year with a big Dhoom. But I must say that this Dhoom almost turned out to be a dummy, if there was not the effort of Aamir Khan.
The film begins with the introduction of Sahir (Aamir) who robs a bank in a rather unconventional way. I mean what kind of robbing is it when the robber does not get all the money and rather showers it on the crowd near the building. And not to forget, that he robs a bank and runs away with just a small backpack of money!!!
The introduction scene for Ali (Uday) and Jai (Abhi) was even more hilarious. Now it has become a trend in bollywood to squeeze in a few Tamil or Malayalam characters or scenes to get more regional audience. After a rather funny first 20 minutes, the film takes a serious turn, when Ali and Jai go to Chicago to catch the back robber.
There is a bit unconvincing flashback to the reason why Sahir is robbing the same bank all the time, and its hard to believe that the Circus building still remains in place for more than 20 years, in Chicago, where is real estate value is so high. The is a secret behind the reason that Sahir succeeds to escape scot-free every time and that was supposed to be most thrilling part of the movie, but it does not take a rocket scientist to unravel this secret well before it is shown on screen.
And once the viewer knows the secret, the rest of the story becomes obvious and predictable. Katrina is completely wasted in the movie. She appears in couple of songs and scenes. The background score overshadows the dialogues. The dialogues in the movie are kept very minimal and its rather action and music most of the time. The special effects are well above par, and lot of importance is given in detailing each and every frame when Shair tries to escape from the cops, and I must say they have taken some inspiration from Iron Man and James Bond.
Aamir has carried the entire movie on his shoulder and also succeeds to some extent, but the Dhoom series was not supposed to be a one man show after all.
Overall its just a average show put off by the team, but some extra credit goes to the dedication and pain taken by Aamir.
